It’s perpetually three weeks away…
… or at least it seems like it that. Completion, that is.
A quick recap of the story so far — had the house snagged, and found roughly 150 faults, Crest said they’d put most of them right by the 24th. Went to the place on the 25th, discovered that most of them hadn’t been corrected at all. Fired off e-mail to Crest, and…
… met with Crest’s Build and Customer Service Executives at the property today (well, technically yesterday).
So now the’ve seen with their own eyes all the snags that need rectifying, and are shocked (shocked!) that they’ve not been done already. Of course, there’s no explanation for quite how these didn’t all get rectified by the 24th, but I’m not going to get too much satisfaction chasing that up, so I’m letting it slide for the time being.
They’ve promised me faithfully (and shall be supplying this in writing) that the remaining snags that we’ve agreed to will be fixed by the 5th July.
Of course, I don’t trust this date (fool me once, etc), so in theory, all I have to do is go along on the 6th (say), make sure that it all looks good and then press on with exchange of contracts.
Or so you’d think.
Two new-ish issues have raised their head.
First — back when we first saw the property at the beginning of May, Jackie at Crest (one of the sales people based on the site) told us that there’d been a leak under the sink, sufficiently damaging the units under the sink that they warranted replacing.
It’s now the end of June and they’ve still not replaced it. Apparently it’s going to take two or three weeks for the replacement unit to arrive, and then they’ve got to schedule a time to fit it.
I might exchange before then, but completion can wait until that work’s done.
Second — one of the last places we re-snagged today was the bathroom on the thirdfloor. NBI had noticed a little damp spot up by a dormer cheek (that’s the bit of wall next to a window on a sloping roof). Well, with the recent wet weather that’s now a significantly larger damp spot, and some of the plaster’s blown.
That was a cue for much sucking-air-through-teeth from the Crest reps as they try to decide how difficult that’s going to be to replace. I gather that may involve pulling out that pre-formed section of the wall to get behind it to where the leak is. I gather from their dismayed expressions that that’s unlikely to be a small job.
So, I still don’t have a firm set of dates for exchange/completion. It’s still “two to three weeks away”.
The wait continues.
